Interviewing new alternative rock band Lazarus X(Part 3 of 4) Q: "You seem to be very knowledgeable about world events and political issues. That's fairly dangerous territory for a musician isn't it?" A: (Laughs) "Yes it is. I never have been able to play it safe, I guess."
A: "I guess I'd say I'm an independent with liberal leanings. I like to take ideas from both the left and the right and have supported candidates on both sides of the fence at one time or another. I don't like to place a limit on myself to where if a good idea comes along I feel like can't support it. I'm like most people in that respect I think. I'm really more interested in the ideas themselves instead of the political parties. I wish that they would cooperate on more issues. Were all Americans." Q: Many of the songs on the album address more
personal issues such as lost love and personal struggles. Do you limit
yourself to a certain subject matter when you write or do you just write
whatever comes to mind?"
A: "No I never limit myself I just sit down and write a poem or sometimes I write the music first and let it inspire me. For example on Asylum I just started with a track of a dog barking and the street noise recorded out my window. I added a siren and suddenly the main riff just came to me. Then I wrote the rest of the music and lyrics afterwards." Q: "That's a good song by the way I really like it. What is it about if you don't mind me asking?" A: "Well basically its about looking for a release for the pressures of the outside world and finding it in music. When everything is crazy and I fell like I loosing my mind I can always turn to music for asylum." Q: "I noticed that most of your songs feature guitar solos. Did you play all of them?" A: "Yes I play everything on the album except drums. Actually I did do a couple of drum fills on a borrowed drum set for the song Weapon of Love. I can't fit them into my house yet so I can't play them all the time. (Laughs)
