Houston local bands - Themagdalene

Houston local bands Themagdalene Themagdalene may be known to some of you as Dogtooth Violet or simply magdalene but whatever you call it the members of this Houston local band know how to rock.

This local group has been burning up the stage at some local shows including the rhythm room, Sherlock's and the Sidecar pub.

Rob Sherrill (guitarist) and Kenny Bernal (vocals) started the band in 99 and since then have had five or six drummers and a couple of bassists including bassist Erick Doxey (who was also a member of lemonenemy). Themagdalene has cut two EPs so far, Themagdalene (2000) and EP #2 (2002) and is in the process of releasing a third CD soon.

Their songs are interesting and performed well. They seem equally at home with a slow acoustic song as with pedal to the floor rock making for an interesting mix. From the slow almost swamp rock groove of tainted water, to the funk driven blues of 10,000 reasons, to the slow acoustic pop driven songs like couch therapy these guys can play. Check them out.
